The risk of being monitored online calls for technological solutions that protect people from government surveillance in the digital space. One of the suggested solutions is to communicate through encrypted apps and fortunately, an increasing number of companies are now offering such services. Yet, encrypted apps pose several challenges of availability and accessibility as they usually do not offer support to all written languages and lack accessibility for people with disabilities. Ensuring the availability and accessibility to encrypted apps is of importance to activists, journalists and civil society. To ensure that the right solutions are found and implemented, it is crucial that suppliers of encrypted apps and civil society representatives experiencing the challenges of availability and accessibility are brought together to identify the most pressing issues as well as possible solutions.
The Action Coalition will consist of members from governments, civil society organizations and suppliers of encrypted apps and their goal are to facilitate a process in which a specific tech action is implemented in 2022
